Carnival is a staple among the Caribbean islands, and Jamaica Carnival 2025 is coming! Caribbean carnival is deeply rooted in history, dating back to spanish colonization and evolving into the colorful and highly anticipated festival it is today.

Intricate costumes and vibrant music are just a few of the memorable aspects of the party, and participating in it can feel like being part of Caribbean history itself.

When is Jamaica Carnival 2025?

This year, Carnival will be celebrated in Jamaica from April 23 to April 29. Parades, festivals, and multiple events will be held throughout the island in celebration of the occasion.

Where is the Jamaica Carnival 2025 happening?

Kingston, the capital city of Jamaica and its biggest urban center, hosts the main carnival in Jamaica celebrations, but they are not limited to the city.

Ocho Rios and Montego Bay are also known for hosting Carnival events, especially beachside parties.

If you’re looking for a different side of the Caribbean carnival, a calmer getaway to Discovery Bay may be for you. This coastal town full of amazing, exclusive villas, is very close to Ocho Rios. If you want to check out the festivities but return to relaxation—without the hustle and bustle of a city full of tourists—Discovery Bay is a great option.

Beach J’ouvert and Fêtes

During carnival, several popular fêtes and beach parties are held. These are all-inclusive events where attendees can enjoy great food and amazing drinks by the beach. Music and live performances are involved, of course!

Some of the most popular J’ouverts and fêtes are “Duck Work Cooler Party” and “Daybreak Brunch Party”. Ticket prices vary for these parties and others, so booking in advance is recommended.

  • Where? Various beaches around Ocho Rios, Montego Bay and Kingston.

Is Carnival in Jamaica free?

Yes and no. Some parades happen in public streets, and others require some kind of admission payment, like tickets to a club or private venue. Traditional parades that can be followed can be found specially in Kingston, but if you’d like a more exclusive carnival celebration, with DJs and bars, for example, researching parties that happen during carnival and buying these tickets or packages in advance is the best option.

Mas bands events during Carnival

Don’t be surprised if you spot large groups of people wearing matching costumes with similar colors when you’re out on Carnival parades.

These are Mas bands, groups of Jamaican revelers that build community around Carnival. While public parades can be enjoyed by anyone, these groups choose to wear themed costumes, stay together when out on parades, and host exclusive parties. Usually, these are paid events and costumes.

The Mas bands tend to have a theme for each Carnival in Jamaica, and it influences the way they choose to dress, what colors they use as a group, and the overall vibe of their exclusive events for the yearly festival period.

Where to stay for Jamaica Carnival 2025?

It depends on what you’re looking for. Kingston hosts the main carnival celebrations and has constant parties going. Ocho Rios and Montego Bay boast their beachside parties, which are also lively and vibrant, but not like in a big city like Kingston. If you’re looking for a getaway, several coastal towns offer villas and resorts that help you relax instead of following parades and attending all-inclusive parties.
